Impact

Following each concert we distribute a brief survey to our audience.  In addition to measuring and documenting the success and impact of our program, our survey provides an opportunity for each audience member let us know their thoughts about the music.

It is our honor to share the insights of
our extraordinary shelter audiences.

Audience Comments

“I am always very anxious around lottery time- but when they announced you all were coming to play for us (they let us know when calling the lottery) I did calm down a little. But just hearing and watching you all play is so wonderful (at least for me). You soothe me and make me feel good about myself.” - Pine Street Harrison Women’s Inn Guest

“You guys brought life to the shelter and the instruments. It was like you were talking to us through the music. You brought us so much holiday cheer. Everything about this made me feel good-- warm and unexplainable. I could feel your passion for the music through the instruments. You showed so much professionalism, I could see that this was serious, not some sort of joke, and it showed your love for the music. It was amazing, and there are really no words for it.” (transcribed from a man who had experienced a stroke and could not write, Pine Street Shattuck Inn Guest)

“I’ve got a master’s degree in engineering and this is my first experience with homelessness. Great job. Your Christmas music is certainly the most Christmas us guys will get! Thanks so much!”  - Pine Street Shattuck Inn Guest

“First experience with classical music and it was great!” - Dimock Center Guest

"I love citizen artists working for social change (Shelter Music Boston)! Your musicians play with passion! The Double Violin Concerto-- Bach couldn’t have played better!” Community Day Center of Waltham Guest

“Glad to have you people.  Helps our spirits.  Homelessness is no joke on a day to day basis. I'm glad that people truly care about people that are homeless.  It means a lot because a lot of people look down on us.  Thanks for coming.  It was so nice. God bless always." CASPAR Shelter Guest
